Dr. Forcellini completed his master’s degree with laude from the University of Bologna in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2006. His master’s thesis, titled, “Studi di Interazione Terreno–Struttura (Study of Soil Structure Interaction)” was collaboratively developed at the University of California, San Diego in collaboration with Prof. Ahmed Elgamal and Dr. Jinchi Lu.

Since then, he has continued collaboration with Prof. Ahmed Elgamal. He collaborated with Prof. James M. Kelly at UC Berkeley on base isolation technique. He also worked on seismic protection of historical structures with Prof. Falko Kuester at UC San Diego and with University of Florence with two major applications to San Marino historical city centre and to Michelangelo’s David. He is (solo) author of several contributions on numerical simulations of Soil Structure Interaction on international PEER-reviewed journals. Recently he started to work on resilience of systems with few contributions.
He worked as a bridge engineer between 2007 and 2009. Between 2009 and 2019, he has been teaching at University of San Marino. He completed his Ph.D., “A structural optimized performance-based earthquake engineering (PBEE) methodology and risk-management decision making” at the University of San Marino.

Research Title: Numerical Simulations of Soil Structure Interaction: the assessment of the seismic vulnerability of Wellington CBD

Project Summary:
In order to assess realistic non-linear responses of systems under earthquakes, it is fundamental to use Soil Structure Interaction (SSI)-based approaches by performing the state-of-the-art numerical methodologies for the assessment of the seismic vulnerability of Wellington CBD that are the object of the PhD thesis.
